The
BRASSETT FamilyNewsletter
Welcome to No 8 Newsletter
Well how do I start, thing have been a bit busy of late and so the Newsletter Business has been on hold, thinking about it so has the web-site.
BUT with a bit of luck I should be able to get things back on track over the next few weeks, that before I have to move out of my flat as the landlord want to sell, not sure where I am moving to but I will let you all know when it happens.

Stephen Brassett
Stephen will be 19 on the 10th (10/10/82) - he has just completed a six month stint as an instructor at an adventure camp in Wales with PGL on an exchange scheme. He has been in London but could be in Spain (by the time this newsletter goes out) for a couple of weeks so he will celebrate his birthday in Madrid I think (might even find the same pub I celebrated my own in a few years ago !). He then returns to London until mid December when he heads home. Email =
village_idiot77@hotmail.com

Ruby Anniversary and will be there for Ian's Birthday email - mail@lohikan.comRuby Wedding Anniversary
John and Phyllis Brassett are celebrating their Ruby Anniversary on October 7th 2001. They live in Kings Lynn, Norfolk. They have Four Children, Steven, Colin, Ian, and Diane. They also have six grandchildren.
John worked for the Post Office for years and years and years well it seem that long and is now retired, Phyllis has worked as a cook for many years and apart from having to look after four kids she cooks the best Sunday diners in Norfolk.
I have been trying to contact IAN about sending them messages while they are in the USA, but as his email is at work send them to me Robert via
J&P@Brassett.net and I will forward them on when we have somewhere to send them.
F a m i l y T r e e
With the Brassett's from New Zealand having three birthdays this month and me talking about me section all the time I though it would be good to throw the spotlight on someone else.
The tree looks something like this:
Ernest Samuel BRASSETT - born 1897 - Died 1978
married Daisy (Marsden) - 1918
Among their Children they had a son Bertran Noel BRASSETT - born 1923 - Died 1996, he married Fay Evelyn (Coughlan) - 1946
Bertram and Fay had six children Helen (Now Erridge & married to Jim), Jillian (Jill) [Now Newton, Divorced), Dianne (Divorced) Judith (Now Gough, Divorced), Errol Noel [Married to Karen Patricia (Nee Burt)] & Ian, (Divorced)
Helen and Jim have two kids, Andrew & Isobel - Jill has two, Gavin & Jillian - Dianne has two, Simon & Natasha - Judith has one, Amanda - Errol and Karen have four, Christina Lynne, Stephen James, Michael David and Rebecca Jayne.
Andrew and Isobel are the only ones to have started a new generation with one child each
Errol supplied me with the Crest that is one the front of the Web-site, In emails back a forth with his sister Helen it appears that their family went to NZ from England with the Father of Ernest being born in the UK.
I found the following on a web-site for the War Graves Commission, this Bertram may be a brother of Ernest which would then make their Father and mother the Annie and Andrew mentioned.

HOLD ON
- I put the following in the last Newsletter=======
Yvonne Marshall sent me the following email with regards to a web-site in Australia, she came up with the following information can any help
it is a site on shipping records ,free + online to trace families who were "un-assisted " in their passage to OZ.
http://www.pro.vic.gov.au/welcome.htm. If it is not responding, just type in up to au bit. It is easy to navigate too.I found only 1 Brassett on the list.
He was Andrew 19y old in May 1869. He sailed to Victoria on "Yorkshire" from a British port.
Don't know who he is but someone may be related. cheers Yvonne Marshall
=======
Any chance of this being the same Andrew, take this as a very vague rundown, but here goes
Andrew Born 1850, Travelled to Australia 1869 (Andrew age 19), sometime went to NZ,
Son Bertram Born 1893 - (Andrew age 43), Son Ernest Born 1897 - (Andrew age 47), Son Bertram died 1981 WW1 in France - (Andrew died before this date but would have been 68)
Well plenty to think about - anyone have any ideas or am I way off the mark - ROB
M a k i n g C o n t a c t
I received an email from Diana saying and uncle in Canada had told her about the web-site. I sent her copies of the previous Newsletters and received the following reply
From: diana and lex cade <
diana.lex@clear.net.nz>
We moved to New Zealand in 1957 on the S.S. Southern Cross (landing on the 10th July 1957) We initially lived in Dunedin, NZ (for 2 years) then moved with Dad's job to Invercargill, NZ, where we have been ever since.
I married in 1969 to Alexander Edward Cade (known as Lex) We had two children - Michael Grant Cade (7/7/1971) and Paul Gregory Cade (30/11/1972)
They have both married; Paul on 16th September 1995 to Melanie Jane Raggett (born 17th
September 1972) and Michael, to Rachel Anne Smith ( born on 10th February 1975) on 26th June 1999.
Michael and Rachel had a daughter - Katherine Rose Cade. Katherine is very lucky, as she has seven living Great-grandparents all living in the same city.
My parents are still living (in their 80's) in Invercargill also.
Dad is a bit vague when it comes to birth-dates, but here is what I can tell you about his background
His parents were Herbert Brassett (Middle name was possibly Bertram) and Emily Brassett
(nee Tanner). They lived at 67 St Pauls Way, Bow E.3 and during the bli were bombed out and lived at 87 Sherrards Way High Barnet Herts.
Herbert worked as a warehouseman a Millard (? Milward) Bros.in Houndsditch and later at the Woolwich arsenal after the depression. Herbert's father was a lighterman for the Grand Union Canal Company, and was killed at work due to the large ball on the end of a crane striking him and knocking him off the lighter where he was crushed between the lighter and the wharf.
Herbert & Emily had four children, my father being the eldest.
1. Herbert David Brassett born 23/8/1918
2. Lesley Francis Brassett - married Peggy Arundel (deceased and now lives in Stouffville Canada
3. Reginald John Brassett - married Olive (surname unknown) now resides in Tring ( 1 Hobson's Walk - Herts.)
4. Iris Emily Brassett - married Frank Gudgeon.... now deceased
My Uncle Leslie has an e-mail address but I am presently at work and his address is on my home computer.
I look forward to your next newsletter
Regards
Diana
HISTORY
I have stuff on the section that comes from Bucks and some history on Chetwode, Fringford and Preston Bissett, with Maps and Photo's. Does anyone have the same sort of thing for the East london and Essex sections in the UK and other sections around the world.
send stuff to me by email to
history@brassett.netNOTICE BOARD
We have had over 80 hits on the web-site and there have also been messages on the notice board, its a good idea to send emails on Birthdays but how about putting messages on the notice board. I will kick things off, these can always be printed off for those who do not have email.
LINKS
Let me know if you have web-sites connected to your work, business or hobbies we can set up a link between each other.
GRAPHS and PLANS
The Family tree is getting rather large so I am trying to cut it down into section, by making it only three or four generations at a time and then a link to the next section.
Does anyone have their parts already on file to save me allot of typing and this will also avoid errors in re-typing.
